Gandhi’s full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He is widely referred to as “Mahatma,” meaning “great soul.”

Satyagraha, meaning “Truth Force,” was Gandhi’s method of nonviolent protest to achieve social and political goals.

The Salt March, also known as the Dandi March, was a 240-mile protest against the British salt monopoly in 1930.

The title “Mahatma” was given to Gandhi by Rabindranath Tagore, recognizing his spiritual and social leadership.

Gandhi began his career as a lawyer in South Africa, where he also started his activism against racial discrimination.

Gandhi is best known for his philosophy of nonviolent resistance or Ahimsa, which he used to lead India’s struggle for independence.

Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948, in New Delhi by Nathuram Godse, who opposed his views on Hindu-Muslim unity.

Gandhi is lovingly called “Bapu,” which means father, in recognition of his role in India’s independence movement.

Gandhi led the Champaran Satyagraha in 1917 to address the plight of farmers oppressed by British landlords.
